Autumn 2017

Letter from the editor

A conversation with my four-year-old at bathtime recently went something like this. Me, “Is Captain Barnacles from The Octonauts going to rescue Mummy Duck’s babies?” (who were trapped after a tidal wave of bubbles).

Him, “Yep! The baby girl ducks need rescued but Octonauts are on the way.” Me, “The baby ducks are both yellow, maybe they are a boy or girl, or both boys?” Him (very adamantly) “No silly Mummy, boy ducks are blue!” At only four, he already believes there are distinct differences between boys and girls. In our parents’ opinion debate this issue, we asked local parents what they really think about society becoming more gender neutral when it comes to bringing up baby.

It was a real treat chatting to former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen about the release of his new picture book Chocolate Cake, we have a really sweet craft idea to brighten up your home for the season and This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby shares some ‘Truly Scrumptious’ recipes from her new baby and toddler cookbook that the entire family can enjoy.

As usual we have loads of ideas for your autumn family adventures in our what’s on guide and to celebrate the season we are giving away some absolutely amazing prizes! One lucky primary school pupil will win tickets for their entire class to see Aladdin at the SSE Arena this Christmas and we have five family passes up for grabs for Cinemagic’s special preview of the new Lego® Ninjago movie… Awesome!
