August 2017

Letter from the editor

One of my favourite childhood memories of summer is beachcombing for sea treasure, a hobby which eventually amassed a huge collection of shells, each one special to me in its own individual way.

Kids are natural collectors and inside this issue, I chat to author Nina Chakrabarti about the world’s wonderful, and weird, greatest collections and collectors.

August is an awesome time for getting out and about and you’ll find lots of adventures for the entire family to enjoy in our what’s on guide, but one event that’s always a highlight on our calendar is the Belfast Mela. This year we are a proud media partner so come on down to Botanic Gardens on Sunday August 27. We’ll all be there in the party spirit and with our Crafty Kids feature, you can help the kids make their own Mela lantern to light your way to fabulous festival fun.

One of our favourite food writers Nicola Graimes shows us how to make tasty takeaway treats at home on page 14 and in the third instalment of Safety Net, our collaboration with the NSPCC NI to keep kids protected online this summer, we delve deeper into what parents need to know about cyber bullying.

Finally, one of my absolute highlights of Summer ’17 was meeting our amazing winners and finalists of the Ni4kids Family Awards, each and every one, a shining family star. Read all the coverage at www.ni4kids.com/familyawards

See you in September.

Nadia
