Belfast tunes up to host UK Pipe Band Championships at Stormont Estate

Belfast is tuning up to host the UK Pipe Band Championships on Saturday 10 June with 100 of the finest pipe bands, drum majors and highland dancers competing to be crowned champions

Organised by Belfast City Council and The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, this is the fourth consecutive year that the competition has been held in the city. The free, family-friendly event attracts thousands of visitors to see the performances at the Stormont Estate.

The championships allows local pipers, drummers and dancers to compete with participants from across the UK, Ireland and further afield. Running from 9am to 6pm, between competitions, there’ll be a number of food and drink, stalls and fun activities for both young and old to enjoy.

Ian Embelton, Chief Executive of The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, said: “We’re pleased to be back in Belfast for another year and delighted to have another huge turnout from bands and drum majors for the UK Pipe Band Championships. We also have a large entry in the Highland Dancing category and everything is in place for a day of top-class competition.

“We’re looking forward to working with Belfast City Council once again to deliver the event and would call on everyone to come down and enjoy the spectacle and a great day out!”

Entry to the event is free with onsite parking allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. People should allow time for their journey to the event due to works by NI Water in the vicinity of the Newtownards Road. Visit for updates.
