February 2017

This February we are loving…

Copying the Catwalk

Fresh-faced and frizz-free was the call of duty for beauty at the launch of Belfast FASHIONWEEK’s Spring/Summer 17 season. Italian hair company ALFAPARF Milano return to the shows this season as official hair partners, bringing with them the creative teams from Stafford Hair, Ben Close Hairdressing, Scissor Sister and Chrysalis salons. BFW director Cathy Martin welcomed another Italian brand, KARAJA, as the official make-up partner to the event, while beauty and skincare sponsors also include local favourite skincare brand Skinician and self-tanning hero He-Shi.

Here’s the BFW Team’s guide to getting the FASHIONWEEK look for your hair and make-up this season:

Hair:

•Blowdry the hair smooth with ALFAPARF Milano’s extraordinary All-in-1 Fluid and Cristalli Liquidi.

•Using a curling wand bend the mid-length to ends of the hair, helping you create movement in the lower section.

•Using a boar bristle brush, smooth down the hair at the roots, setting in place with ALFAPARF Milano’s Illuminating hairspray.

•At the nape of the neck pull the hair into a low pony and secure with a bobble. Taking a small section of the hair out; wrap it around the bobble allowing you to recreate that professional, polished look.

*Styling tip*: As a modern hairstyle, you can either part the hair quite high and to either side, or in the centre of the head – work with what suits your face shape.

Make-Up:

ALL ABOUT THE SKIN: To illuminate the skin for that ‘fresh-faced’ glow, use Karaja BB cream primer (no.3)*.  Next, apply KARAJA CC Cream lightweight foundation (no. 3) with a slight dust of Karaja Plasiz translucent powder to achieve a flawless finish.

ALL ABOUT THE EYES: Using soft pinks & peachy spring colours from Karaja eyeshadow WonderBox (no.6), dust the shadow all across the lids and use a matt brown shade from the same palette to kiss across the lash line creating a soft eyeliner effect.

A TOUCH OF MAGIC: Apply Karaja’s Lash Design Black Mascara and follow with ‘A Touch of Magic’ Blue Mascara to enhance the lashes and compliment your eye colour.

BRONZE ME UP: Contour and highlight this look by using Karaja’s fabulous compact Gold and Bronze (no.31) from the Twin Collection.

PUCKER UP… BE BRIGHT BE BOLD BE BRAVE: Two tone/ombre lips are big for S/S 17.  For this look, apply Karaja Perfect Lip liner (no.1), add Karaja Lip Studio (no.6) and follow with a touch of Crystal Gloss to add a volume effect that will plump up the lips with a long-lasting effect!

Getting A Good Night’s Sleep

According to The Great British Bedtime Report, many of us either don’t sleep enough or have a poor quality of sleep. Apart from the obvious feeling of tiredness, it is well known that chronic lack of sleep increases your risk of developing heart disease, strokes and other conditions such as high blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes and obesity, claim researchers from the University of Warwick. Magnesium is required by the body to maintain a state of rest. Magnesium deficiency can lead to leg cramps, restless legs, stiffness and excess muscle tension, all of which can cause interrupted sleeping patterns and sleepless nights. MagnesiumOil Goodnight Spray from BetterYou, is enhanced with essential oils to promote deep relaxation, a sense of well-being and natural, peaceful sleep (RRP £12/ 100ml) while when dissolved in a body or foot bath these Magnesium Flakes (RRP £9.95/ 1kg) feed every cell and efficiently replace magnesium lost through modern diet and pressured lifestyles, providing you with the most relaxing 20 minutes you will ever spend!
