This year, Bookstart is celebrating 20 years of the world-renowned reading programme which gifts free books to babies and young children.
Launching the Bookstart 20 campaign in Carrickfergus Library, Sammy Wilson, MP has pledged to share 20 books with friends, family and colleagues for the 20th anniversary of Bookstart. The east antrim MP said ‘Bookstart and libraries do an excellent job of promoting reading at an early age which has tremendous benefits for society. Children who receive books at an early age do better at school and it improves their literacy. It is a programme that has been proven to work and I am happy to lend my support to it.’
Libraries NI are working with Booktrust on the Bookstart 20 campaign to promote book sharing and celebrate the 20th birthday of Bookstart. Pledge cards are available at all libraries or you can make your pledge on line at www.booktrust.org.uk/bookstart20
