Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile, is calling on everyone to support the brain injury charity, Headway Belfast by striding out in local parks.
The Park Mile Walk takes place this Saturday 26 May between 12 noon and 2pm at the following parks: Falls; Ormeau Park; Orangefield Playing Fields; Waterworks; Musgrave and Victoria Parks; Grove Playing Fields, and Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park.
Headway Belfast, which works to improve the quality of life for survivors of brain injury and their families is one of the Mayor’s chosen charities. The Park Mile Walk is an annual event which encourages everyone to become more active and make greater use of parks. This year we are encouraging those taking part to fundraise for Headway as well.
Councillor Ó Donnghaile said: “The one mile walk is child’s play as you can see from the enjoyment these children from St. Joseph’s Primary School, Ballyhackamore are getting from joining me at the launch.
“It is a great thing for families to do together and it will benefit not just you and your family but other families who need the support of this charity at a very stressful time in their lives.
“Brain injury doesn’t just affect one person, it affects their families and friends who all have to adapt to the changes that are brought about. It can happen in an instant. Please take a walk and encourage your family and friends to fundraise for Headway Belfast, you can make a difference to someone’s life.”
Fundraising for the charity is optional but as many people as possible are asked to show their support. The walk must be completed between 12noon-2pm. Face painters will paint the faces of children who participate in the walk and mini health checks will be carried out at four of the venues – Falls Park, Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, Victoria Park and the Waterworks.
If you want to fundraise for Headway Belfast it couldn’t be simpler.
