The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland has kick-started its sponsorship of this year’s Milk Cup by getting the ball ‘moooving’ and celebrating the world renowned tournament that is now in its 30th year.
This year, the competition, which begins with regional matches on Saturday July 21, sees the Dairy Council continuing to put the milk into the Milk Cup for the past 29 years. Its support has helped to position the tournament as one of the leading youth sports events in the world.
The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland's longstanding partnership with the Milk Cup has also helped to highlight the role of milk for aspiring sports people. Dr Mike Johnston, Chief Executive of the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland explained:
“Our sponsorship of the Milk Cup not only highlights the sporting talent of young people across Northern Ireland but it is also part of a wider campaign called Milk in Action that aims to encourage young people to drink milk by creating awareness of the important role that the white stuff can play in the health and wellbeing of our youth, both on and off the pitch. Milk is increasingly recognised as a natural sports drink, providing hydration as well as essential nutrients, including protein and potassium for muscle function and calcium for strong bones.”
The Dairy Council’s Milk in Action campaign is jointly funded by the EU. For more information log on to www.milkitforallitsworth.co.ni or facebook.com/MilkItNI
The Milk Cup tournament kicks off on Saturday July 21. The opening parade of teams through Coleraine will take place on Sunday July 22 with the tournament running until Thursday, July 26.
