Lord Mayor to host play session for parents and tots at City Hall

Belfast Lord Mayor Councillor Nuala McAllister will host another parents and tots morning at City Hall later this month as part of her ‘open agenda’ during her year in office.

It will be the third such event hosted by the Lord Mayor, but this time it will be on a bigger scale and she is opening up the invitation more widely, asking parents, grandparents and carers to get in touch to secure a place at the event on Wednesday 21 March.

Councillor McAllister said: “It is really important to me that during my year in office, I help to make City Hall an open and welcoming place for everyone, including families.

“As the mum of a toddler myself, I know how important it is to get together with other parents and carers who are on the same journey, experiencing the same highs and lows of parenthood; sharing stories and supporting each other.”

The play session will be held in the Banqueting Hall of City Hall on Wednesday 21 March from 10am-12pm. Places are limited and spaces and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis by emailing

There will be sensory play and a soft play area, as well as a Rhyme Time session hosted by staff from Belfast’s Central Library.

Staff from Belfast City Council’s play development team will also be helping to facilitate the play session. Council operates six play centres across Belfast which run after-school clubs, Saturday clubs and seasonal schemes. For more info visit

“Before I finish my term of office, I’m planning to host more play sessions so if mums and dads can’t get along to this one, there will be another opportunity to attend,” added Councillor McAllister.

Details of future events and information on attending will be announced on the council’s website and social media channels.
