Have yourself a blooming good time at Rose Week

This year’s Rose Week at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park promises visitors of all ages a blooming good time.

Rose Week is a floral delight, attracting entries from across the globe to its competition, with the added attraction of music, street entertainers, arts and crafts. It runs from Monday 17 July - Sunday 23 July at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park. Admission is free.

A Jurassic Dinosaur Walkabout will take place on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday 21-23 July, and it’s only one of the highlights programmed especially for the young, and young at heart, during the week.

Alderman Tommy Sandford, Chair of Belfast City Council’s People and Communities Committee, who was joined by Miss Northern Ireland, Anna Henry at the Rose Week launch, said: “Thousands of people come to Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon each year especially to enjoy the beauty and scent of the roses.

“They also look forward to the wide range of entertainment on offer - so the visit’s fun for all ages. Families come together and make a day of it with a free shuttle bus service from the grounds of City Hall to Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park throughout the week.”

“Come along and enjoy the event with us – you can be as active or as relaxed as you wish,” added the Alderman.

Try your hand at Salsa or Tap dancing, beat the drums, sit back and enjoy some live music, whizz down the mega slide, have your face painted, get in front of the camera in the photo booth or behind it at a free photography workshop. Babcock and Bobbins will astonish and amaze with fire juggling and other circus skills, while Punch and Judy will bring some old style entertainment, and there’ll also be arts, crafts and environmental workshops to enjoy.

The free shuttle bus operates daily from City Hall, (Donegall Square East).

An information marquee will operate each day from 10am-8pm beside Wilmont House. For more information on the event, go to www.belfastcity.gov.uk/roseweek
