How the nose got its sneeze
July 10, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

This summer OKIDO Studio will be touring a wonderful, science-based play experience for young children to enjoy along with their families.
Starting with a story to set the scene, children will journey through a giant nose and continue with lots of loose part play within two large lung-shaped domes. A gentle soundtrack of music and breathing will accompany the activity. Lung researchers and OKIDO play rangers will be on hand to help with any questions you or your children may have.
This play experience aims to introduce children under five years of age to the world of the nose and its function as a gatekeeper to the airways and lungs.
Children will have the opportunity to explore what happens inside the nose when things like dust, pollen and smoke enter our nostrils and how the nose defends our lungs against these invaders.
This play installation has been designed by OKIDO Studio in collaboration with respiratory researchers as part of Breathing Together – a five-year research and engagement programme exploring breathing and lung health in children.
Entry will be free with admission to W5.
This experience will run in 45-minute sessions on each and every hour from 10am until 4pm.
This event is for under-5s. Parents, carers, grandparents, and older siblings will be encouraged to play alongside their children to help them with their discovery, enjoy new experiences and, most importantly, have fun.
