Family Party Ideas to Bring in the New Year

Creating magical memories with your family to bring in the New Year can be the perfect way to get creative as a family. We’re counting down our top 10 family party ideas to make sure you give your little ones a New Year to remember!

  1. Create a New Year’s Eve Party Menu with the kids and get them involved with everything from the table planner to the celebratory drinks. Get the kids to design some sparkly glitter hats and some colourful pictures as the placemats.

  1. Why not make your very own homemade photobooth – All you need is a nice backdrop (a sheet, or brightly coloured wall will do) and pick up a family-friendly set of photo booth props. The kids (and adults) will love getting fantastically silly in the selfies!

  1. A DIY Time Capsule is the perfect chance to reflect on the last year with your kids and have a keepsake to enjoy as a family in the future. All you need is a large jar or shoe box and get the kids to fill it with any photos, paintings or small objects that they’ve gathered throughout the year. For older kids you could get them to write out some of their memories, achievements and hopes for the future.

  1. Get everyone in the house to write down their favourite songs from the last year and create a New Year’s Eve party playlist. Don’t forget to add ‘Auld Lang Syne’ for whatever time you will be bringing in the New Year with your little ones.

  1. Who Made the Resolution? Get everyone to write down two resolutions, fold the sheet of paper and place into a jar. Each person takes one out and everyone has to guess who made the resolution.

  1. You can’t go wrong with Charades for some quality family fun! The perfect opportunity for everyone to get silly and theatrical with guaranteed laughs. Tailor your game according to the ages of those playing. If you have younger kids, you could use picture cards with animals on them and for older kids you could do movies and Netflix shows.

  1. Create a New Year Buffet with lots of finger foods for tiny hands to pick at. Chopped celery and carrot sticks with dips, mini pizzas and quiches, crisps and crackers and some rainbow fruit skewers.

  1. Gather some fancy glasses and let the kids create their very own mocktails. All you need is some fruit juice or zero-sugar fizzy drinks, mint and basil, pieces of cut up fruit, crushed ice, straws and umbrellas. The perfect drinks for cheering in 2023!

  1. Throw some shapes and have a family dance-off. You can easily create a mini disco with some Christmas lights and a dedicated safe floor space for little ones to boogie the night away.

  1. Whether you’re having your New Year countdown at 6pm, 9pm or at midnight why not use YouTube’s New Year’s Countdown. You can watch coverage from celebrations around the world or watch a dedicated 1-minute New Year’s Eve Countdown for kids.
