Saltwater Square, a new public space in Belfast’s Linen Quarter, came to life this weekend as Translink launched its ‘Summer at Saltwater’ programme with a free, family-friendly open-air cinema weekend.
‘Stories at Saltwater’, a new series of free, guided walking tours also kicked off on Sunday, celebrating the art, heritage and stories woven through Saltwater Square and Belfast Grand Central Station. Running for six weeks, the tours will give people the chance to learn about the area’s industrial heritage, the public art within the Square, the local communities and the role of Belfast Grand Central Station as a new gateway for the city.
Taking place outside the transport hub, ‘Screenings at Saltwater’ welcomed hundreds of film lovers, passengers and visitors across Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June, for a weekend of feel-good films, free popcorn and summer activity in the heart of Belfast.
Across the weekend, visitors enjoyed six free screenings, marking the first major public event within Saltwater Square as part of ‘Summer at Saltwater’, a new programme of activity designed to bring the space to life and encourage people to meet, gather and spend time in the city.
Further ‘Summer at Saltwater’ activity will continue over the coming weeks, including ‘Sounds at Saltwater’, which will bring live music into the Square, and a special Ulster Orchestra performance planned for September.
