Looking for a free family day out this summer? Head along to Carrickfergus Museum on Saturday 8 August, where history comes to life at the Stone Age Fun Day.
Running from 11am to 3pm, the event is packed with hands-on activities for all ages, giving families the chance to discover how people lived thousands of years ago.
Children can enjoy interactive storytelling sessions with Tale Time’s Vicki McFarland at 11am and 2pm, exploring life at the end of the last Ice Age and how early humans adapted to a changing world.
In the Town Hall courtyard, Wild Walk Bushcraft’s Paul Moore will demonstrate how Stone Age tools were made using authentic prehistoric techniques, while budding archaeologists can visit the Pop-up Prehistoric Museum to handle real artefacts and replica objects and chat to experts about life in the Stone Age.
Families can also get creative with artist Janet Crymble, making Stone Age-inspired art and jewellery using natural materials.
Don’t miss the museum’s latest exhibition, Cutting Edge Technology: Stone Tools in Prehistory, featuring a fascinating collection of Mesolithic flint tools discovered in Glynn, Co. Antrim, and learn how some of humanity’s earliest technology shaped the world we know today.
The event is free to attend, with no booking required, making it an ideal way to entertain curious young minds over the summer holidays.
