Cool down at WWT Castle Espie

With the heat rising across the country, let the cooling wetlands of WWT Castle Espie help bring your temperature down.

While the kids play, make the most of shady walkways through peaceful reeds, sparkling ponds and tranquil lakes. And when your legs need a rest, how about chilling out with an ice cream in a shaded hide – you never know what wetland wildlife you might see!

Your visit to the wetland reserve also supports its work creating and restoring more wetlands to help cool the whole planet.

Mary Fitzpatrick said she was visiting WWT Castle Espie with her grandson Oliver, ‘My grandson enjoyed running around in the Wildwood area, there’s plenty of shade and things to play with. The Ice-cream was a big hit also’

WWT Castle Espie’s Centre manager Paul Stewart said: “What better place to be in this hot weather than by the tranquil waters of Strangford Lough?

“As well as shady walks, amazing wildlife and scenery, we’ve also got Junior Wetland Ranger afternoons on Saturdays throughout the school holidays, Kids mindfulness afternoons, pond dipping sessions, mini beast hunting and even an upcoming Bat night!”

WWT Castle Espie reserve is open 10am-4.30pm daily and the Kingfisher café is open 10am-4pm daily.
